Fibreglass screen is actually a composite material composed of fibreglass strands coated with a plastic resin selected by the manufacturer based on Ultra Violet resistance, strength, and cost.
Insect screen is generally identified by MESH size which means the total number of squares per inch or meter. Example – 16 x 18 screen has 16 squares per inch in one direction and 18 squares per inch in the opposite direction. The higher the number, the tighter the mesh.
Here at Restock Direct, we have 3 mesh types:
Standard, Midge and Pet Mesh.
Standard 18 x 14 fibreglass mesh is used in most residential window screens to prevent flies and other insects entering the home. Our trade quality mesh is soft yet strong. It consists of 18 x 14 strands per inch of UV stabilized fiberglass strands. Each strand is 0.33mm thick, making a strong, yet flexible mesh.
Our standard mesh is available in a range of widths from 610mm all the way up to 2400mm.
20 x 20 “Midge” mesh is to prevent tiny insects entering the home. These insects are commonly known as sandflies, midges or no-see-ums. Midge mesh consists of 20 x 20 strands per inch of UV stabilized fiberglass strands. Each strand is 0.33mm thick, making a strong, yet flexible mesh
Heavy duty Pet Mesh is used to prevent damage from cats, dogs and even small children – all while preventing most flies and insects passing through.
It is a strong weave of 11 x 15 strands of high-quality PVC coated polyester thread.
This mesh is up to 11 times stronger than standard mesh and is UV stabilized to last in our harsh sunlight.
